Bent Macbook Pro Base

MacBook Pro (retina 13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

The base (keyboard half) is slightly bent. I don’t know why or how this happened. I noticed it accidently while I was closing the laptop down. The problem is only toward the front bottom right corner that won't quite close as you can see. The display is fine. But the laptop is not stable on the desk anymore .

I’m very nervous because I’m a professor and I use this laptop just for what it is (supposed to) designed for. Probably using always a case and curring it carefully in my backpack is not enough to prevent this.

Should laptops bend so easily? Is there a way to fix this? Any ideas to protect it?

Have your MacBook Pro examined at the Apple Store or at an Authorized Service Center. The point here is that, sometimes, a swelling battery may deform the bottom portion of the case. Hope that is not the case with your MacBook Pro however better be safe than sorry. You have no knowledge of any physical damage to the MacBook Pro and therefore I am making this assumption and recommendation.

After inspection I see that the keyboard bends as well. See the picture. After a bit of digging I found out that the problem of swelling batteries in MacBooks manufactured between October 2016 and October 2017 is already known. There is a 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) Battery Replacement Program https://support.apple.com/13inch-macbookpro-battery-replacement

I'm frustrated that my serial number is rejected... what can I say... what kind of policy is this....?

I would have it looked at, or monitor it closely for any indication is progressively getting worse—

Whether it is covered or not— if this is the battery failing it can cause tremendous damage. I would not be dragging my feet on this issue.

Thanks for the reply. That was my first thought. However, I think that a swelling battery should somehow give a sign of malfunction. The Cycle Count is 54 and its Condition is Normal. That is a sign of a healthy battery. Moreover, yes it may swell the thin lower case, but is it possible to bend the unibody part of the base so easily? This battery can be a great danger for the MacBook and for me as well. Is there a way to check that before I send my mac at an Authorized Service Center? Just a check from the Authorized Service Center could cost me several days out of work.
