How to copy a DVD

I have a MAC with OS X el capitan to which I've attached an Apple external device for playing DVDs and CDs. How do I make a copy of my DVD?

If you see the icon of the DVD disk on your Desktop, double-click on it to open it, inside you should see

a Video_TS folder drag that onto your Desktop (the fodder contains both the video and the audio files).

Using a suitable DVD burning app you can then make your copies for your family members.

Or you could try the inbuilt 'burn' feature. Eject the MasterDVD, insert a blank DVD.

control-click on the Video_TS folder and select Burn to DVD. you will need to check to see if this suitable

for viewing on macs, PC's and DVD players. Don't make many copies until you have checked that the first copy

will operate as desired. An app specially designed for burning CD's, DVD's etc would be better.

If you want to see the DVDs icon on the Desktop, click once on your Desktop, click on Finder in the menubar,

select Preferences> General and under Show these items on the Desktop make sure CDs.DVS and iPods is selected.
