Completely white menu bar on dual screen with macOS 10.15.5

I have an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019) with an external screen.

Ever since the latest macOS update 10.15.5 (although it seems like since then) on of my monitors has a completely white menu bar. The screen that you re focused on si fine, the other white. Switching to the other screen reverses this.

I have tried:

- restarting

- SMC reset

- PRAM (does not seem to work on my system?)

- Reboot in safe mode (no dual screen available)

- Creating another User (had same issue)

- switching from dark to white mode (does not matter)

- Turning OFF System Integrity Protection (and ON again)

- Reinstalling macOSUpdCombo10.15.5.dmg

- Removing unnecessary apps

- Switching the order of screens and back again

I am getting desperate! I have tried all offered solutions in the Apple community, some date from years ago, but I can not seem to fix it.

Does anyone have a fix for this I have not tried yet?

Thanks!

Jeroen

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your response!

Besides the mentioned earlier steps I tried reinstalling Catalina, that did not help either. But.. I noticeed that my other user accoutn did not have the issue. So as we speak, i am migrating to a new user accoutn en getting rid of the old. Very tedious, but it worked.

My iMac is not eligible for free Apple Support somehow, even it being only 15 months old.

Thanks,

Jeroen

Hey JBalthazar,

We understand that you're experiencing a white menu screen when you connect your iMac to an external monitor and we'd like to help!

All the steps your tried so far are excellent steps! We can tell that you definitely put some effort into troubleshooting this issue on your own.

By any chance, did you also try using another cable to connect the two devices to see if you can reproduce the same issue? We want to make sure that the cable or adapter you're using is working fine.

If you continue to have issues, we recommend that you contact Apple Support team next: Contact Apple for support and service

We hope everything works out!

Warm regards.

Hi Chris,

I would be interested in what caused this error. If i look it up in. Google, I see hits going back until 2017, so it's something that appears in a few macos versions now, without a clear cause.

I have really never had an issue on a mac before with me having to migrate to a new user account.
