Unknown apple ids on phone transfer

I had a refurbished iPhone SE for 3 years. I recently bought a brand new from Apple iPhone SE 2.

When i tried to transfer the data from old phone to new, it said that some “Your other device includes purchases from the iTunes Store that were made with a different Apple ID” the Apple ID given was one i had never heard of nor used. I became a little concerned because i didn’t know what app it was,I didn’t know if malware had been put on my phone that i didn’t know about so before i proceeded i called apple, who were incredibly unhelpful and told me to just skip that step.


I went on to set my new phone up from an encrypted back up of my old phone because i needed my health data and passwords etc.


I have deleted and reset my old phone as I am giving it my son. As a test I started setting it up from my new phone, to see if the same thing happened. Worryingly, it did. So I went to forgotten password and it said the user was inactive the second said the Apple ID was invalid or not supported.


I’m really concerned that there is something nefarious hidden on my phone that has access to my personal details or my phone, or pictures of my children.

Thanks again but i rang apple when it happened the first time and they were really unhelpful- they told me to just skip that step. I find them ridiculously hard to contact and communicate with and that ‘Tell us how we can help’ link only gives music based options.


For such a big company, to whom we have given a lot of money in our household with all the Apple products we have, their customer service is absolutely shocking!

See What to do when the Mac App Store shows a different Apple ID for software updates https://www.macworld.com/article/3267709/mac-app-store-apple-id.html. This document refers to a prior owner, but is also applies to cases where a current owner's old Apple ID is the problem.

 

Basically, If an app is purchased/downloaded using one Apple ID, then it can't be updated with another Apple ID. The app is inextricably linked to the first Apple ID. You'll have to delete it and repurchase/download it with the your Apple ID.
