Im so embarrassed to ask... but here it goes. I have an iMac (late 2013) that is being replaced with a new iMac that is to be delivered in the next few days. What cord/interface should I use to transfer the files/photos/music from the old machine to the new one? Im sure it is something super simple, but I am a bit confused. Many thanks in advance!

The easiest would be using your external Time machine or other backup and you'd simply plug it in (usually a USB port).

This one mentions a Macbook Air, but that really is irrelevant because the OS is the same:

Personally, I would Use the Migration Assistant app to do the transfer from the old computer to the new one. They should be connected together via a USB cable. Do not use wi fi as it is unreliable and often causes serious problems. If I remember correctly the new computers come with instructions. Just follow the instructions and you should be ok. Enjoy your new Mac.

Be aware if you use MA, then you will most likely wind up with two accounts - the one that was set up automatically while setting up the Mac and the second one when you use MA. It sets up another account. It is much easier to use Setup Assistant during the initial process as that will port over your account rather than duplicating it. Setup Assistant is only offered once during the initial set up process and is the best to use.
