iTunes could not update my iPhone 7, and it said error message (14) and said "Your phone can't be updated. You must restore it to factory settings."

Have you been making periodic backups to either iCloud or iTunes, with this phone? If so, then those backups should be available to you from either of those sources.

You can purchase backup extractor software that runs on your computer and view what is in your backup.
I followed the steps for locating backups, and I noticed that the most recent one was from today.
So that appears to be positive news.
Is it possible to see the contents that were backed up to my computer?

No. Not without restoring the backup to an iOS device.
My iPhone is not working and I don't know how to fix it.
