Applle ID password needs to be updated

I continue to get a message that my Apple ID password needs to be updated. I do that and it accepts the change and confirms it with an email. I go back to try to sign in and I get a message that an unknown error has occurred. It keeps me going in circles. I need to get in because there is an important app that needs to be updated.

Mac mini, macOS 10.15

Receiving the message you received is common. But, I have not seen a definitive solution for it. I suggest you use my search link in trying to solve your problem: unknown error apple. You will see a number of links that are, or may be, related to your specific problem.
