Now tell me why I have to pay for certain episodes on the smithsonian channel when I already subscribe through Apple TV? Are you running some kind of scam?

If you subscribe to an Apple TV app Channel, then all of that Channel’s content should be included without additional payment.

If you subscribed to the service through the separate app or on the web, then that is a different subscription, and not exchangeable with the service of the same name as Apple TV app Channel. Additionally, SC through the separate app has a regular and a Plus subscription, as two different tiers.

If a show is available through multiple content providers, then some episode may somehow be set to a provider that you do not subscribe to. See the How to Watch section on the show’s Information page for source options.

Please specify exactly what you subscribed to.

Please specify exactly what you are asked to pay for (amount per title = purchase; amount per month = subscription).

Different billing and different perks, thus different product, even if all supported in the Apple TV app.

Some SC shows are only available with a supported TV provider, not through the SC subscription service (which may or may not be a complete match for the Apple TV app Channel of the same name). Unfortunately, this program is not currently available on Smithsonian Channel Plus.”

Unavailable seasons and episodes for the subscription may be available for purchase from other sources, causing the above screen. I do sympathize with the confusion and frustration about that.

There may be differences by subscription service by provider or other exceptions. Ask the Apple Support staff for details, as there doesn’t seem to be a public web page with these details for shows and seasons per Apple TV app Channel, nor does the SC website go into details for the Apple TV app Channel about what is included and what is not.

Thanks for you input Chris_D3.

I guess what I was getting at was... that I pay for a subscription to a certain channel thru Apple TV, but yet I have to pay extra to watch certain episodes/seasons which kind of defeats the purpose of paying for a monthly subscription. Wouldn’t you agree? Maybe you provide more helpful insight again.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you Urquhart1244. The information you provided was very helpful.

So, I do subscribe to the Smithsonian Channel through Apple TV. It’s listed in my Apple ID under subscriptions as, “Smithsonian on Apple TV.”

I can watch some episodes and seasons, but for example in the attached picture, I have to pay for this season of “Disasters at Sea.” I have been able to watch the other seasons.

There are multiple other instances of being changed again for a service I’ve already subscribed to. I feel the service Apple TV provides is subpar, and that I may just get rid of the entire thing.
