frequently used emojis won’t save

When I click an emoji, it’ll save to my recently used list. But once I go back to the regular keyboard and then click back on the Emoji keyboard, the emoji I previously used is gone. This has been happening for a few weeks now, I’ve tried restarting my phone and resetting my keyboard settings already. Please help!!

grilledcheesewithchips,

Sorry to see that any emoji you're using does not appear in the Frequently Used list of emojis. This is not expected behavior. You mentioned that this issue was present in a previous device. Did you restore this iPhone from a backup when you initially purchased/received it?

If so, you may want to Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings using your computer. This will help rule out any possible software problems, along with help to isolate the issue. Once the factory restore is complete, don’t restore data from a backup right away. Test the device before restoring that device information; to ensure the problem isn't present.

Best regards!

grilledcheesewithchips,

I can understand your concerns over losing information when you restore the device as new. When you Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings you'll need to use a computer to do so. If you don't have a computer you may want to ask a friend or family member to borrow theirs.

You will not want to restore your information. This will be temporary unless the tests show that the issue is related to information being restored in a backup.

Hope this helps!

Hello grilledcheesewithchips,

I see that your Frequently Used emoji list is not saving/updating as expected. I want to make sure you have the answers and information you need. First, I'd like to clarify a few things with you.

  • What version of the iOS software do you currently have installed on your iPhone? You can find this in Settings > General > About.
  • When you use an emoji and then go back into the keyboard, does the emoji not show up at all under Frequently Used, or are you just noticing that it's not showing up first on the list? If the emoji is showing up under Frequently Used, this may be expected behavior. Your most frequently used emoji will generally show up first on your emoji list.
  • If you have not tried already, please Restart the iPhone. Does this help to resolve the issue? Often this simple step will refresh the apps and software on the device to resolve numerous issues you may encounter.

I hope these steps help.

Cheers!

I have the latest iOS software, which is 13.5.1 and as for your second question, I’ll click on an emoji that’s NOT on my frequently used, and then when I check my frequently used emojis list, the emoji I just used doesn’t even appear, this happens with every emoji I click. I have tried restarting my phone, I even got a new phone and still the same problem

Thank you for the advice. I did restore my phone from a backup from my previous phone, and the issue was also present on my old phone too. I will try restoring all settings, but does it REQUIRE a computer? I don’t have access to one. And if I were to restore it completely, would it erase all of my data that I won’t be able to get back?

Hello, I am sorry for the very late response. I was looking up the issue again because I have grown tired of it, and I saw another user was recommended the same advice as me: to restore the phone using a computer. However, if the issue with my emojis does appear to be related to a backup, does that mean I will not be able to back up all of my data without the issue coming back?
