Shared Albums with Windows 10

I have a new Windows 10 laptop. I do not want to upload my PC photos to ICloud (too many for affordable storage) but I use shared albums on my IPhone and Ipad just to be able to get and use them on my pc. Most old shared albums are available on the pc in the ICloud folder but new pictures which I send to a shared album sometimes arrive on the PC and sometimes don't. How do I share photos from my IPhone and IPad with my PC without having also to share PC photos with ICloud? SallyAnne

Hello SallyAnne42.

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you would like to share photos from your iPhone and iPad to your PC without having to upload any of the photos that are on your PC with the iCloud Photos Library. We will be glad to assist.

Check out the screenshot below from: Set up and use iCloud Photos on your Windows PC

You can deselect the option "iCloud Photo Library" to prevent photos on your PC from uploading to iCloud, as wells the option "Upload new photos and videos from my PC".

"Turn on iCloud Photos

  1. Download iCloud for Windows.
  2. Open iCloud for Windows.
  3. Next to Photos, click Options.
  4. Select iCloud Photo Library. (Here you can deselect iCloud Photo Library)
  5. Click Done, then click Apply.
  6. Turn on iCloud Photos on all of your Apple devices.

You can also choose to use My Photo Stream and iCloud Photo Sharing (Shared Albums), and customize the location of your upload and download folders.

When you turn on iCloud Photos on your PC, My Photo Stream is turned off automatically. If you want to send new photos to your devices that don't use iCloud Photos, you can turn My Photo Stream back on. "

Hope this helps.

Cheers.
