Siri pop-ups relentless!

I'm getting Siri popups on my new MacBook Pro 16". I've turned off Siri in the System Preferences but it keeps popping up in Final Cut Pro where I'm trying to edit a film.

I do have an iPhone in the cutting room, and I thought I turned Siri off in the iPhone. Though I notice that whenever I have a Browser open and want to type in a question ... something like Siri starts to activate and anyone talking in range causes the iPhone to immediately start to translate that audio into text in the Browser Window.

Help! First question is the most important. I want Siri to just be OFF in Catalina. And not popup every ten minutes to drive me nuts.

Thanks mucho in advance, Ben

Siri is not enabled.

Many times an hour I get a popup asking "Do you want to enable Ask Siri?"

But there is no action for "NO, I DO NOT" - the call to action is "Enable," indicating that the system knows it's disabled.

How can we stop these prompts?

Thanks

p.s.: this is not related to "Handoff" or my phone, because this is happening on my work laptop which is not using the iCloud account that I use on my phone.

I just did a complete clean re-install of everything on this new MacBook Pro ... meaning deleted everything and erased the internal drive, then re-installed everything app by app and then personal data. I've only installed Apple apps, or certified Apple Store apps like Affinity and MSOffice. All my old forgotten, or little used, 2nd party apps are gone. The CleanMyMac app was a big problem creator. And the reason I did a complete clean re-install. It's gone, and so are the chronic FCPX crashes - obvious caused by CMM.

And ...

Siri is still popping up. Maybe not as bad as before - we'll see during the day. But one thing I find enormously frustrating is that I turn it off in System Preferences, and the next day I found it has turned itself on again.

It's creepy. And 'feels' invasive, if not slightly maliciously capitalistic.

Hi i-rina,

I deselected Siri immediately in the System Preferences when I set up the computer - a new MacBook Pro 16", running Catalina. I just checked it ... and it had turned itself back on!! I turned it off again.

And I still keep getting the Siri Pop-up box saying: "Do you want to enable Ask Siri?"

My choices in the pop-up are: I can either read a text on security, or cancel, or enable. There are no other choices.

I don't want to use Siri, I don't want to to have to go every day into the System Preferences to turn it off ... and this doesn't seem to help anyhow, the pop-up is still appearing. Perhaps there is another issue here?

All ears, Ben

This is super annoying when I'm trying to work.

Hi Ben Low,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today with Siri pop ups on your new MacBook Pro.

To be sure Siri is switched off on your Mac, please see: Use Siri on your Mac

"Turn off Siri

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Siri.
  2. Deselect the Enable Ask Siri checkbox."

On an iPhone, you'd switch Siri off in Settings > Siri & Search.

From what you have described with using Safari on your Mac and the iPhone reading the text, sounds like it might be related to Handoff: Use Handoff to continue a task on your other devices.

Do you have any accessibility options switched on in Settings > Accessibility on your iPhone? Check VoiceOver, spoken Content, and Audio Descriptions there.

If this doesn't resolve the issue, let us know more details.

Have a fantastic day!
