Does iCloud for Widows only work on a device running windows 10? I can't get it on my Windows 8.1 system.

Does iCloud for Widows only work on a device running windows 10? I can't get it on my Windows 8.1 system. Yet some links indicate that it will work with Windows 7 and 8.1. An apple link sends me to the Microsoft store. I don't see a downloaded file or an iCloud folder as in Win10. Why are the below choices only for Windows 6 (?) and Windows 10. What about Windows 7 and 8.1? I'm beginning to think this cannot work.

Hi there, r755rider.

After reading your post, it appears that you're wondering if iCloud for Windows only works on a Windows 10 PC. When you clicked a link to download the app, you're only seeing options for Windows 10, and we're glad to help with this.

I got iCloud installed on my Win8.1

laptop. The link was the third choice in the directions.

After that I did not see an icon on my

Desktop. I did get a folder called iCloud Photos. I did not want

photos as a choice. I use an external HDD for that.

I did a search on “icloud” in File

Explorer. It return 272 items. !!!

I narrowed the search to “icloud

drive”. That found 2 items. One is recent. The other is from 2016

and shows a folder that is no longer valid. ??? I wonder how it found

that.

It gets worse.

Today I went into Outlook. ALL my

contacts are gone!

I get this message -“We didn't find anything to show here.”

Is this what iCloud is supposed to due?

How do I recover my contacts? I use this function every day. All my

links, user names and passwords are in my Contacts. I also looked at

my calendar. That has also been cleared of entries. I had

appointments and birth dates in there. All are gone.

I also could not sync my laptop to the

iCloud data on my HP desktop. This was my objective in using the

cloud. The HP has files in the iCloud Drive folder.

Is this a typical result?
