Deleting Apple ID from IPAD

Is there a way to delete an apple id from an IPAD if the apple id is an old email address from a former job and you don't have the password! i have a new ipad restored through icloud. The IPAD has the current apple id entered but i still get the occasional prompt asking me to enter my password for an old apple id. And i have a permanent red number 1 on my settings indicating i need to take actions. i'm logged into Icloud correctly and also logged into apple store/Itunes under the correct apple id . Somehow the IPAD has my old apple id linked to one of the apps but i can't locate it. And all of the instructions on deleting an apple ID require you to go to itunes, and enter your password. and i cant use the forgot password feature becasue the email account is no longer active LOL catch 22 any suggestions appreciated.

This might be your problem. See What to do when the Mac App Store shows a different Apple ID for software updates https://www.macworld.com/article/3267709/mac-app-store-apple-id.html. This document refers to a prior owner, but is also applies to cases where a current owner's old Apple ID is the problem.

Basically, If an app is purchased/downloaded using one Apple ID, then you can't update it with another Apple ID. The app is inextricably linked to the first Apple ID. You'll have to delete it and repurchase/download it again with the second Apple ID.

If that is not your problem, is your device activation locked? If yes, see Turn off Activation Lock https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201441. Sometimes Apple Support can help you with activation lock. But, note that the device is useless to you if:

(1) you can't use the instructions in the above document to remove the activation lock;

(2) you, or the person you acquired your device from, doesn't have the receipt from an authorized Apple seller for the purchase your device with the device’s serial number on it;

 (3) you don't have a court order instructing Apple to assist in the provision of access to a decedent’s information from the deceased person's accounts;

(4) you can't obtain the needed password from the person you acquired the device from; or

(5) you can’t contact the prior owner and have them sign out of iCloud; erase the device; and remove it from their device list,

Given the above list, if you want to contact Apple support to help you with your problem, see the support links below. Alternatively, if an Apple Store is open in your area, then you can go there to deal with your problem. In this case, you can make a genius-bar appointment (https://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/) if you want.
