Linked contacts

I discovered that some of my contacts also have “linked contacts,” all which I wish to eliminate, because when I send a text message to someone, it also shows up in the linked contact in my message list.

iPhone 6SE, version 12.4.1

Thank you, confused but love my iPhone

Hello mainer56,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! We see that you have a question about Linked Contacts, and we'd like to help.

On this page of the iPhone User Guide, it talks about linking a contact: Hide duplicate contacts on iPhone

You can unlink them by choosing Edit > Scroll down to Link Contacts > Choose the red (-) minus sign.

Take care!

Hey mainer56,

Thanks for the reply and additional information, we appreciate it!

When you first create a contact and select Link Contacts, it's only going to give you choices to add a link, not the red (-) minus sign, as there isn't a linked contact yet.

The steps we provided were to try on one of the contacts which already has a Linked Contact, that you were referring to in your original message. Have you had a chance to try with one of those existing contacts? Don't forget to tap on "Edit" up in the top right corner of the contact's page.

If it's still not looking as expected, restart your iPhone and try again. Restart your iPhone

Thanks!

Hello sterling r,

Thanks for your quick reply. I'm still unable to delete linked contacts on my iPhone6. I added a new contact earlier today, scrolled down to "link contacts...," pressed the green "plus" sign, and received a group of other contacts, not the red (-) sign.

Your further assist would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mainer 56
