PDF Last Opened

Hi

I want to know if I can return to the last page opened for PREVIEW app. I am reading a 168 pages PDF and every time I open the PDF, it is at page 1 and I have to scroll or jump to the last page that I was reading before I shutdown the Mac. The preference setting is already set but doesn't seem to work for me. Another issue is if it will retain the previous position and size of the PDF that I was reading. For this my observation was that it worked just for once when the Catalina was FIRST installed. The PREVIEW app will remember the position where the PDF was located on the screen as well as the last page that I was reading. But along the way, this behaviour was gone and I do not know what has cause it to disappear. When I knew it, it was "too late".

If the above is not clearly and sufficiently described, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Kindly advise the necessary. Thank you.

Regards, James

There is a Preview Preferences : PDF : [√} Start on last viewed page. If that does not work, when you next open that lengthy PDF, then it is another bug in Preview.

The current Adobe Acrobat Reader DC does not do this either until you set its Preferences : Documents : [√] Restore last view settings when reopening documents. This took me to the last viewed page (330) of 393 page PDF.

Depending on the PDF creation tool, instructions can be embedded in a PDF on how it is to open, including full screen. Rude, but possible. I suggest that you open that PDF in the current Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, and in its Preferences : Full Screen panel, see if any Full Screen Setup boxes are selected. If they are, deselect them, and save the PDF.

Hi VikingOSX

Thanks for your prompt reply and taking the time to answer my query.

I have tried that option previously and it wasn't working. But miracle happened. It is working now. However, it does not remember the last open the previously resized position. One of the PDF always open and occupy the entire window. I resize smaller but it always open full window.

James

Hi

I download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader. Open the affected PDF > Preference > Full Screen Setup. I do not know what these options mean and so I disable the second option (see attached image)

But when I close and quit Adobe Acrobat Reader and open the affected file using Preview, it open full screen. So I adjust and resize it smaller, save the file, quit Preview. I restart Preview and open the affected PDF and it still open in big window.

But it works perfectly under Adobe Acrobat. However, Adobe Acrobat Reader does not return to the last open page (but this is not my concern as I am not using Adobe reader).

Tried and error with various settings, make changes to the files just to save it. etc etc and still not able to make the resize permanent.
