MacBook Air USB-C Charger/moldy smell

Hi all,

I just received my new MacBook Air and noticed a moldy smell coming from the box even before I opened the shrink wrap. I was able to trace the smell to the USB-C charger. Searching these boards, I found that it’s a common problem. I contacted Apple Support and they sent me a new one that I received today, which also stinks to high heaven. I have also found on these boards that this is also a common occurrence. I have now made an appointment for this weekend for a curbside Genius Bar consultation to try to resolve this.

What I’d like to know from the community is this: has anyone ever been able to successfully get a non-stinky USB-C charger? I've seen similar complaints, but never seem to see that it’s been resolved. Are there other options that you have been able to find to solve the problem (alternate charger, etc)? I’d like to have some options in my head before I go to Apple this weekend. Thanks!

Update: I was hoping to get a reply before I went to my appointment, but since I didn’t , I’ll tell you the outcome. They gave me a new cord which only smelled slightly better than the first two and basically told me that’s what we have and that’s what you’re going to get. So, if someone is reading this a year from now, The answer is no, Apple is not willing to look into the matter and you are stuck with a sticky cord. And if there’s somebody like me who is very sensitive smells/allergic to mold, be prepared to feel sick from here on out. Very disappointed.
