iPad Air 2 unexpected shutdown

My iPad Air 2 shuts down sometimes even when battery is a 100% charge. The only way to turn it back on is to plug it back in. It shows the Apple reboot screen and battery shows 100%. This doesn't happen all of the time but has started occurring more often. Battery? Anyway I can check this without going in to an Apple Store?

iPad shuts down at 100% My iPad is fully charged let’s me log in and then shuts down. Trying to restart asks to be plugged in, which if I do then shows the battery as empty. If I carry on trying to switch it on it will loop round shutting down until the battery reaches 99% then I am good. I have seen several posts with this issue but no solutions. Any help would be highly appreciated.
