BT Smart Hub 2 and Apple Time Capsule

Hi all,

Have been with BT for over 15 years for our broadband, yesterday we have renewed our broadband, and BT are sending out a Smart Hub 2, currently using the white open reach modem, into which i use an Apple Time Capsule (tall type 2TB) with various Apple Airport Extreme's dotted around the house for access points and Wifi coverage.

My question is that is the Smart Hub 2 able to replace our white open reach modem (which we have had since day 1) and have the Apple Time Capsule as our router as per our current set up?

Thanks in advance

It depends.. if the open reach modem is a pure modem the answer is no .. you must reset the TC and run it in bridge mode.. if you do it with the same wireless name and password the rest of the network should be fine assuming your on extend wireless.. if you use ethernet and roaming you should reset all the units and reconfigure them one by one once you do the TC.

If the open reach modem is in reality also a router and the TC is setup correctly as is.. a quick reboot of the TC followed by reboot of the rest of the network should fix it up.

Good morning, thanks for your reply, i tried everything this morning and couldn't get it to work so for now have reverted back to the old open reach modem and apple time capsule.

i'm pretty sure the BT Smart Hub 2 cannot be run in just modem only mode, the version i have has the wan port, tried connecting the time capsule to the wan port and also the lan ports and the time capsule wouldn't show on the network along with the 4 other apple airport devices that i use to extend my existing network.

Once you have reset the Time Capsule, you can use the same device name, same wireless network name and same password that you used before. That way, you won't have to also reconfigure all of the other AirPorts that are extending the network.

Once the Time Capsule has been reset using a Hard Reset or Factory Default Reset, connect an Ethernet cable from one of the 4 LAN <--> ports on the BT device to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule and then use the AirPort Utility setup "wizard" to configure the Time Capsule.
