I recently had my 2017 MacBook Pro repaired by Apple, and took the opportunity to erase the drive and do a fresh install of all my software + documents.
I have a few email accounts and use Apple Mail. Everything is great, but when I get a new email, the New messages sound goes off twice. This is really just annoying, not a HUGE deal, but I'm wondering why this is happening.
FYI I'm running Mojave 10.14.6

Any third party Spam filter software? This could cause New messages sound to go off twice.
There is often a notification option in Preferences that can be disabled:

Thanks for testing in safe mode. What happens when you create and try another user on your Mac? If the issue remains in another user account, and only with the Gmail accounts, you'd want to reach out to Gmail Support.

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc. Login and test. Reboot and test as caches get rebuilt.
In Safe mode third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled, it removes malware, etc hampering smooth operation, however a reboot will put it back to normal mode.
Since you have already tried Safeboot with no insight...
You can delete the gmail account and add it back in as a trouble shooting exercise.
What did Gmail Support say when you ask them?
Safe mode doesn't help.
I do have multiple accounts. The double chime happens when I receive new messages on my gmail accounts, but does NOT happen when I receive a message on my Apple ID email (@me.com).
Doesn't help.
