Daemon using high CPU

Recently I began to notice my MacBook Pro's fan ramping up more than usual. In Activity Monitor, I have noticed constant 99% CPU activity by the process, "daemon". The parent process is "launchd". If I restart or quit the process, it starts up again after a few moments. I don't recall seeing this process in the past, or at least it wasn't consuming so much of the CPU. Unfortunately, searching for information on "daemon" on the web was not very helpful because "daemon" is very nonspecific.

Any ideas how to resolve this or what this process is from?

I've tried quitting all applications (browsers, Outlook, Word, Preview, menubar items, etc.) to no avail.

I'm running Mac OS 10.15.5 (Catalina) on a 15" late-2018 MacBook Pro.

Thanks for your help.

I think I found the problem. I recently updated to version 2.2.0 of CyberPower's PowerPanel Personal , a utility that manages my external CyberPower UPS. Thinking this might be the culprit, I ran its uninstaller; "daemon" immediately disappeared from the Activity Monitor and my fans became quiet again.

Hopefully this will help anyone else encountering this problem who recently updated to 2.2.0 of the PowerPanel utility.
