Siri types back a response but won't talk on apple xr

Thank you for reaching out on the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you no longer hear an audio response from Siri, but you can see the response on the screen of your iPhone XR. Are you still experiencing this issue? 

If you are, we suggest first making sure that your iPhone is on the latest version of the iOS software. It should be iOS 13.5.1. 

Find the software version on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

After you update, try this:

1. Connect to a strong Wi-Fi network
2. Plug into the power adapter to charge
3. Select another voice at Settings > Siri & Search > Siri Voice. (e.g. if you have American Female selected, tap Male and let it download)
4. Test Siri to see if you hear a response after the voice downloads.

If you hear a Siri response when you have another voice selected, try going back to choose your preferred voice to see if you can hear it now.
