Sandisk Extreme SSD doesn't show on iPhone 11

So i bought an external hard drive as well as the original apple lightning-usb 3 camera adapter.

However, even with the power supply connected, the SSD doesn't show on the iPhone 11 in the files menu.

I tried the external SSD on my macbook which works fine. I also tried all formats supported by the disk utility tool. The SSD is not encrypted either. Anyone an idea what the heck is wrong?
