I just bought my wife a new iPhone SE and am trying to backup the data from her old iPhone SE in order to have it ready to transfer to the new phone. However, whether I chose to back it up on the iCloud or on my MacBook Pro, I get message saying my Mac does not have enough storage.

There is difference in backing up to iCloud and MacBook Pro.

If you are getting message while backing up in MacBook Pro, then probably you don't have enough storage in Macintosh HD.
If you are getting message for iCloud

Thank you. I followed the directions on how to manage my storage and it provided many simple ways to reduce it. Just click on the Apple symbol, About this Mac and then "Storage". Under that folder click on Manage. It shows several easy steps to reduce major chunks of data which are arranged in largest size first. Thanks for the help.
