Can I upload Word onto a Mac Book Air OS X 10.11.6?

No, but you can download it. That said, the current version of Office will not run under the version of macOS you have installed. You would need to upgrade macOS or find an older version of Office that's supported by 10.11.6. You may try Office 2011 which may still be compatible with 10.11.x.
