Your iMac must be a 2012 or newer version to install Mojave or Catalina. Do "About this Mac to find the submodel:

What is the year of your iMac and what operating system is it currently running? Go to Apple menu > About This Mac for that information.
Without any idea model and year of your iMac, I can only guess that it may be too old to be able to run Catalina. Older models do not have the necessary components to run newest software.

High Sierra is the latest OS your computer will accept. You should be able to download it from the Apple store. Good luck.
