Sound pending

I have problems playing a sound on find my app. They are connected through Bluetooth and have done everything to set them up to pair with phone but will not play any sound. If the pods are out of case they will play sound. Frustrating as if I lose them I have no sound to find the case and pods. Anyone had the same issue?
