too turn this off you go to settings>accessibility>touch and at the very top there’s assistive touch click there then scroll all the way down and turn off “confirm with assistive touch” and something will pop up saying if you want to use the side button instead and you just confirm.

’VE FOUND THE SOLUTION

Step 1: Go to settings and on the search bar, type in ‘Side Button’

Step 2: Press the option at the top- it will say ‘Side button➡️Accessibility’

Step 3: Higlighted blue, it will say ‘enable AssistiveTouch’ Press it and it will take you to another setting,

Step 4: At the very bottom of that page it will say confirm with assistive touch- press that button so that it isn’t green anymore and your problem will be solved.

YES YES YES! OMG 30 minutes on the phone with a very helpful Apple person who DID NOT MENTION THIS! I took her advice but I wasn't at the store trying to check out, at that moment, obvi.

I like assistive touch for lots of things, like screen shots, because this 12 Pro Max is so HUGE that I cannot reach both sides to do a screenshot. But when I turned it on, I had no intention of making it IMPOSSIBLE to use Apple Pay at my grocery store.... standing there holding things up while a line of people waited behind me. ARG!

And today I discovered it also meant I couldn't download apps, because that too required Assistive Touch ... and nowhere anywhere could I find what the blasted thing WANTED ME TO DO.

I buy you a $50 Starbucks card, whoever you are, 3000iPhone3000.

So pleased to hear it worked out!

it drove me to absolute distraction.

Not even a new problem - I originally posted that way further back in the thread. Maybe 6-8 months ago? And not even restricted to the 12, as my problems and eventual solution all happened on my 11Pro Max.

But proper credit where credit is due:

I just took two separate already-posted approaches and when they failed for me individually, I tried both - in a row.

Cheers!

(oh wait - you weren't talking to me were you? D’Oh! gotta read more closely )
