You need to turn off "confirm with assistive touch"

Step 1 go to the settings tap Accessibility

Step 2 then tap Touch then you can see AssistiveTouch

Step 3 Open AssistiveTouch then scroll down at last you can see Confirm with AssistiveTouch

Step 4 Turn it off that’s solve

Go into the settings, and accessibility. Then go to "touch", and turn off assistive touch. Then go to the very bottom of the page, and make sure the "confirm with assistive touch" is off. Then go back to accessibility, and open the "Face ID and attention". Turn on "Require attention for Face ID". You can go to the bottom, and turn on "Haptic on Successful Authentication" I use that, because it will play a little noise, and display a check mark when downloading apps and paying with apple pay, to show it was successful.

Thanks VERY much.

I can't sufficiently express how much I despise this "feature."

BTW:

I found that I had to follw Rajeep's advice (turn off the Assistive Touch step)

first, then follow these side button steps here.

Those two, in that order, was the only true fix for me.

A million thanks, again!

Go to:

Settings ➡️Accessibility ➡️Touch➡️AssistiveTouch➡️Confirm with Assistive Touch➡️OFF

THEN

Settings ➡️Accessibility➡️Side Button➡️Enable Confirm with Switch Control

THEN

Settings ➡️Accessibility➡️Side Button Confirmation➡️OFF

YES YES YES! OMG 30 minutes on the phone with a very helpful Apple person who DID NOT MENTION THIS! I took her advice but I wasn't at the store trying to check out, at that moment, obvi.

I like assistive touch for lots of things, like screen shots, because this 12 Pro Max is so HUGE that I cannot reach both sides to do a screenshot. But when I turned it on, I had no intention of making it IMPOSSIBLE to use Apple Pay at my grocery store.... standing there holding things up while a line of people waited behind me. ARG!

And today I discovered it also meant I couldn't download apps, because that too required Assistive Touch ... and nowhere anywhere could I find what the blasted thing WANTED ME TO DO.

I buy you a $50 Starbucks card, whoever you are, 3000iPhone3000.

So pleased to hear it worked out!

it drove me to absolute distraction.

Not even a new problem - I originally posted that way further back in the thread. Maybe 6-8 months ago? And not even restricted to the 12, as my problems and eventual solution all happened on my 11Pro Max.

But proper credit where credit is due:

I just took two separate already-posted approaches and when they failed for me individually, I tried both - in a row.

Cheers!

(oh wait - you weren't talking to me were you? D’Oh! gotta read more closely )

settings, general; accessibility, side button, bottom of page click on enable confirm with assistive

touch. The first time this only worked on iphone 12

settings, general, accessibility shortcut, created the accessibility triple click for this.

go to settings, general, face id and passcode and make sure apple pay, and itunes and

app store enabled. A confirmation message will come up now.

I suggest writing down what works for you encase you have to do this again.

Good luck, and hope this works.

try settings, face id and passcode, enter passcode and make sure the green is showing on the buttons there, if not turn them on to show the green.

then settings, accessibility, side button,

click on enable confirm with assistive touch at the bottom of the page

then settings, accessibility, accessibility shortcut, click on assistive touch

it should work now

First of all I will say if you reset phone this has to be reset again. I dont know exactly what happened but stopped working

and I had to redo again. If you have face id enabled can make it more challenging.

Settings, Accessibility, side button, bottom of page, enable confirm with assistive touch

settings, accessibility shortcut, click, triple click at top of list

make sure your buttons under face id and passcode for itunes and app store, and apple pay are toggled on

you might then have to go to settings accessibilty, touch, and turn off assistive touch at top of page to work

Some times this takes longer or is repetitive but will eventually work

This worked! Assistive touch is horrible. Three nights talking to Apple to transfer $ from Apple Cash and they didn’t know how to fix it either. Just wanted to get rid of Assistive Touch and transfer $ by hitting side button like I used to. Do what rajeep67 says to do. It worked!!! Then I went up and turned off that ridiculous Assistive Touch!! OMG what a horror. It also started screwing up other stuff on my phone. Been down so many rabbit holes since this Assistive Touch BS button suddenly appeared out of nowhere in Apple Pay I can’t remember what it screwed up but I turned it off and that fixed that. But then I couldn’t transfer $ to bank again insisting on using Assistive touch which never worked and was utterly f useless. So did what rajeep67 said to do and it works! The Apple supervisor last night disappeared talking to me on the phone after consulting w/ANOTHER specialist and that didn’t work either. He just gave up and went away. But rajeep67 got it right. I’d add: then scroll up and turn off Assistive touch because it doesn’t turn off automatically just because you turn off Confirm with Assistive touch. What a horror it is!
