With 2nd gen iPad, purchased new HDMI adapter. Plugged HDMI cable from tv into adapter. iPad screen does not display on tv. It worked with older iPad and older adapter on same tv. Advice?

With 2nd gen iPad, purchased new Lightning Digital AV Adapter directly from Apple. Plugged HDMI cable from tv into adapter. iPad screen does not display on tv. Tried fixes posted here (unplug adapter from iPad with hdmi still plugged into adapter and reconnect, do hard shutdown of iPad and try again), still no display. The hdmi cable works on other devices, and the display showed on same tv with same hdmi cable with older iPad. Advice?

How are you using a Lightning connector digital AV adapter with a 2011 iPad 2?

A 2011 iPad 2 and 2012 iPad 3 use an older 30-pin dock connection port and NOT a Lightning port!

What iPad model do you own?

What is the “A” model number of your iPad?

The “A” model number of your iPad can be found on the lower area of the aluminium back of your iPad in small print letters right underneath the large, bold printed” iPad”.

You can’t even purchase the original 30-pin dock connector to digital AV adapter from Apple or ANYONE any longer!

I still own a working 30-pin dock connector digital AV adapter that still works and I use with my 2010. 2011 and 2012 iPad models.

With recent versions of iOS/iPadOS, it is often necessary to complete the HDMI connections between the HDMI Adapter and TV/Monitor before connecting the Adapter via Lightning to the iPad. Put another way, connection of the HDMI adapter to the iPad must be the last step in making connections.

Since iOS 11, iOS devices have became “fussy” about the sequence of connections. At a technical level, the iPad only enumerates the HDCP-handshake when first connecting the Adapter to the iPad; if the TV is not connected to the adapter, prior to connecting the adapter to the iPad, the HDMI-link fails to detect the TV - and the encrypted connection with the TV cannot be established.

I hope this insight and guidance helpfully resolves the connection problem.

Connecting the iPad last often appears to resolve HDMI link issues.

Hope this helps to resolve your HDMI connection issue.
