Siri won’t read messages thru AirPods

I have made sure my AirPods are connected. I have made sure that I’ve turned on Announce messages with Siri. I will hear a “ding” With a new message, but then she won’t read it. She had been reading them fine and now has stopped. Help

I tried resetting, pairing and unpairing. The Apple techs have been unable to figure out why it won’t work. They say my most recent update must have a glitch...Siri won’t work, my maps won’t announce directions. Sucks when tech doesn’t work right and techs can’t fix it.
