copying music from disc to mac computer

What kind of "disc" is it? If it is a data disc, and your computer has a disc drive, you can copy the files to your hard drive. if the disc is an audio CD, you will go through the process to import ( Import songs from CDs into iTunes on Mac - Apple Support ) which will put the audio files into your iTunes/Music library.

Once the files are on your computer, follow the procedure for the player.

OK, if they are music CDs, they will need to be ripped (imported) in order to create audio files that the player can use. If you use iTunes/Music to rip them, the files will indeed be in your library, although you can delete them when the project is over.
