Apple TV in password loop

I had an issue with an old Apple TV asking for password and code. Did what everyone said to do 100 times never worked. I signed into iCloud first on the Apple TV. Then signed into iTunes with the password followed by code and worked the first time.

Welcome to the Apple community.

If you are using two-factor authentication on an older device…

You should be able to append the code to your password and enter that (i.e. if your password is ABC and your code is 123, enter ABC123), however if this doesn't work it may be that you are running out of time using your authentication code and you may want to delay getting your code until the last minute or temporarily disable the 2 step verification/2 factor authentication, although it shouldn’t be necessary.

Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication

  1. From an iPhone or iPad, go into "Settings" => click on the top bar with your name and "Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes & App Store".
  2. While still on iPhone or iPad, tap on "Password & Security", then tap on "Get Verification Code", LEAVE the supplied verification code visible.
  3. Go to the iTunes login on your AppleTV settings and start logging in.
  4. When it asks for your password, enter your password and add the verification code to the end of your password BUT DO NOT HIT SUBMIT YET !!!
  5. Go back to your iPhone/iPad and tap on "OK" on the verification code to make it go away.
  6. Now go back to your AppleTV and submit the password.

If you are attempting to enter the password and code together then you will likely be exceeding the time limit. You would need to enter the password, then manually request the code, and then add it to the password.

2FA can only be turned off it was recently enabled, within the first 2 weeks. It would then make the account less secure and disable certain features that require the extra security.

Righttttt but what I’m saying is A. My 2 step has been on longer than that. So that’s a no for me. B. Everyone I read could not get their Apple TV to work with the steps provided above. So what I posted was I tried that way. 17 times and it did not work. Just like many other people. But when I signed into the iCloud first. The iTunes sign in worked the first time. It’s a different way to try to fix the problem for other people. Not sure what the issue is with that.
