Lock screen won’t wake when receiving Messages

I recently purchased an iPhone 11 Pro and have updated to software version 13.5.1.

When my screen is locked and I receive a new Message, my screen does not wake. I have to tap my screen to see the notification. This also affects my series 2 Apple Watch which is linked - I no longer receive haptic feedback on my watch.

I have turned my Message notifications off and restarted the phone then turned them back on again. I have also confirmed haptic feedback is turned on on the watch.

Does anyone have a solution?

An update: if I turn off my series 2 Apple Watch completely, my lock screen will wake when I receive notifications. When I started the watch up again, they did not work again. Does anyone know why this is and how to fix this issue?
