Apple iigs won’t start up
I have an apple iigs that won’t POST properly. It just brings up a screen of blocks. Any ideas where the fault could lie?
Thanks for any suggestions anyone is willing to offer. Have a great day.

Thanks again for the response. I'm not sure I have reseated the RAM. Maybe just the ROM. I see the bank of RAM chips soldered to the board, but which chip of RAM can be removed/reseated?
Thanks again for responding and have a great day.
Hello,
It appears that you have one of the newer models of Apple IIgs. This model’s RAM chips are soldered directly to its logic board. It could be that one of the RAM chips has gone bad. With the machine turned on, grab a piece of the metal frame with 1 hand and feel each chip with the other. If any are too hot to touch then it’s likely that chip has failed. You would have to desolder that chip and solder a replacement in its place.
Hello,
This often indicates either bad RAM or ROM. What often helps is to reseat all the RAM and ROM chips.
Thank you for the reply. I did try reseating the chips, but the message persisted, so maybe it’s a bad chip. Thanks again, and have a great day.
Hello,
While I cannot provide a link as to where you can purchase these replacement parts, they can easily be located by running a web search.
Thanks for the reply and have a great day.
