Power Mac g4

i got power mac g4 from my friend,i got it without hard disk drive,when i plugged it to wall and then i pressed the power button the button light went off when i let go the button


can someone helps me?


my mac model is m8493

You may want to reset the SMU/PMU (there should be a microswitch near the PRAM battery). You need to unplug the computer. Then you need to press the SMU/PMU button only one time for less than one second or you could crash the SMU/PMU. I like to use the flat edge of a nylon stick to press the button so I make sure I can feel it depress. After pressing the SMU/PMU button wait 15 or 20 seconds before connecting the power cord & trying to power on the computer.

You may need to remove the PRAM battery as it may be interfering with the SMU/PMU. The computer should power on & run without the PRAM battery installed. The only downside is if the power is removed from the computer, then the PRAM settings will revert to their defaults which can include Date & Time, Startup Disk, Network settings, and mouse settings, etc.
