I have recently logged into my icloud photos and found that 5 years worth of my photos are missing. They should go back as far as October 2013, however I can only see as far back as August 2018. It is also telling me I only have 241 photos backed up ....last time I checked I had over 1000. Can someone please help? I had some very important pictures stored which were of high sentimental value.

You have not mentioned how the photos are stored in iCloud.com , have you set up iPhone / Mac using iCloud photos ? was photos were transferred through iPhone to Mac , if you turned off photo box in any device the photos will not get stored in iCloud .com

I have icloud set up on my iphone and my Mac. The photos were transferred through my Iphone to my Mac. Photobox is turned on on all my devices. The photos that I am missing have been stored in my icloud since 2013 and are no longer on my devices.

Do you know if you had extra iCloud storage to accommodate the larger library of photos?
I had no extra icloud storage, I hadn't needed it as I hadn't reached my free storage limit yet.
I had albums set up on my icloud of several holidays that still have the album name but are now empty .... no photos :(
