Out Of the Blue: The backup disk is not in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format, which is required.

I use Time Machine on my 3 Tb Time Capsule which I bought in March 2014, used to back up the three MacBooks/MacAirs we use in my family. The MacBooks all are running MacOS 10.15.5 Catalina.

Everything has been running smoothly. Backups are being made flawlessly, right on schedule.

Until last night, when out of the blue I get this message:

The backup disk is not in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format, which is required.

Huh?!? Where did that come from? I've poked around a bit, best I can, and see nothing out of order. As far as I remember, nothing out of the ordinary happened yesterday.

Please advise!

PS—I've been using Macintosh computers since 1987. But I'm not particularly tech-savvy. LOL.

Well, upon further searching, I found a post similar to mine dated June 23.

The suggested solution was: turn off the Time Capsule for an hour or two, then turn it back on. That solution worked.

The suggested problem was: the drive in the Time Capsule is getting old.

Does anyone have advice beyond or different from this solution?
