Does anyone worry about confidentiality of data on computer when dropping it off at Apple store for repair?

I understand that I could erase all data, but I would like to avoid that if possible. I do have a complete backup in TIME Machine.

Having a current Time Machine backup, or drive clone (carbon copy cloner) is sensible before taking your Mac in for repair. If it is sensitive data (employer, financial, etc.) then you might consider ensuring that is doubly backed up, and removed before taking it to Apple.

There is no absolute assurance of privacy when you take a Mac to Apple for servicing. It is whether the Apple employee performing the service has a morale compass or not.
