iTunes shows no music on device

Hello, i have two problems that both correlate with each other:

  1. In iTunes, under 'On My Device', it shows that there is no music on the device, and that there are no playlists as well; however, on the iPhone, all the playlists and music are on it.
  2. After last syncing the phone, every playlist that I had updated songs from, showed in iTunes as being empty from the sync. For some reason this only happened after I updated the iTunes software itself.

I hope that someone can help me, as I am desperate to find out what the issue is, and if this has happened to anyone else. Thank you.

Turn on Sync Library

With the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS,

Sync Library is turned on by default. If you turned off Sync Library,

you can turn it back on. Just follow the steps below for your device.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Go to Settings > Music.
  2. Turn on Sync Library. If you don't subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match, you won’t see an option to turn on Sync Library.

If Sync Library is updating or turned off, you'll see a message at the top of the Library tab in the Apple Music app.

On your Mac

  1. Open the Apple Music app.
  2. From the menu bar at the top of your screen, choose Music > Preferences.
  3. Go to the General tab and select Sync Library to turn it on. If you don't subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match, you won’t see an option to turn on Sync Library.
  4. Click OK.

If you have a large music library, it might take some time to upload and sync your music library across all of your devices.

On your PC with iTunes for Windows

In iTunes for Windows, iCloud Music Library isn't turned on by default. To turn on iCloud Music Library:

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. From the menu bar at the top of your screen, choose Edit > Preferences.
  3. Go to the General tab and select iCloud Music Library to turn it on. If you don't subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match, you won’t see an option to turn on iCloud Music Library.
  4. Click OK.

Thank you!

"iTunes shows no music on device: Restarting the computer did not have an effect at all. Also, my iPhone is already up to date with its current iOS software. This is currently the screen of the iPhone's device section, no music or anything, even though it is on the phone itself."

-------

If you are Referring to the Bottom Bar -

  1. Go Here: How to Check the Storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch - Apple Support
  2. Scroll to: Use Finder or iTunes to check the storage on your iOS device
  3. View the Image: The bottom bar is inferring how much storage each content type is using on your iPhone. It is not inferring how much iTunes items are being used.

Thank you for clarifying.

So, being home music ----

I. Make a Trusted Device:

A. In Windows:

Contact Microsoft, and ask them how to remove your iPhone from a blocked device list. I have a hunch that your iPhone is seen as an untrusted device. Therefore, some firewall settings of sorts are not letting this information to sync.

1. Go Here: Microsoft Virtual Agent - Microsoft Support

2. Ask about removing untrusted devices

B. Any Security Software Installed?

If so, see if this device (your iPhone) has been blocked out (labeled as an untrusted device). Contact the developer, if you are uncertain of the answer.

II. As you said In your OP:

"For some reason this only happened after I updated the iTunes software itself."

Provide Apple Feedback on this:

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iTunes - Apple
  2. Select: "Broken Feature" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Let them know that syncing is the broken feature.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

Restart and Redownload:

Try installing an update on both your devices. Then, restart after the update.

Windows uses iTunes, whereas an iPhone 8 uses Music. So, download these once more on the Windows PC.

"iTunes shows no music on device: This does not correlate to my issue at all, if you could just see the picture, and like i just said, it shows there is no music on my device, although there is on my phone itself. Also, every time I make an edit to a playlist on my phone, and then sync it to iTunes right after, the playlist shows up in iTunes as being empty."

-------

Try a Manual Download:

Are these even accessible in the Apple Store? See if you can download them for the store, or see if they have been renamed. Sometimes items are removed from the iTunes Library itself, and when that happens, they no longer become accessible again. That's just the way it is :(

It all has to do with licensing - Licensing between Apple and the Music Studio.

So, visit the iTunes store, and try a formal download.
