When transferring a back up from time machine onto a new Mac laptop, does it matter if the back up was done on an old Mac operating system i.e software not up to date?
Will it still transfer to the new laptop okay?

There would be an issue if the new Mac had an older MacOS than the old Mac. What you’re doing is fine.
