iphone 6 and apple carplay

I have not been able to connect my iphone 6 to the Apple Carplay system is a new Honda. My husband has a moto e5 that we were able to connect so I know the system works. Research shows that it should work on Apple 5 and up with iOS 7 and above (I'm up-to-date with iOS 13) so theoretically it should work. What am I missing?

Hello jallannorfolk,

Thanks for reaching out and providing all the details here in Apple Support Communities. We understand how important it is to have this issue with CarPlay resolved. We're happy to assist.

You've done a great job at isolating the issue this far. Just to confirm, are you running the latest version of iOS on the iPhone 6s? Have you checked to make sure that your vehicle supports Apple CarPlay?

What happens exactly when you try and connect to your vehicle?

Are you trying to connect to your vehicle using Bluetooth or USB connection?

Thanks for providing those details jallannorfolk.

Have you tried testing the issue using another iOS device? That way you can isolate the issue to the vehicle or the iPhone itself. Are there any profiles set up on the iPhone? You can check that in Settings > General. You can also check

restrictions in Settings > General > CarPlay.

We would also recommend changing the name of the iPhone to test as well. This can be done in Settings > General > About > Name.

If possible, try a shorter Lightning to USB cable or try another cable. Make sure the cable is Apple certified.

The following article will help.  Identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning connector accessories

Thanks for your help. I was able to make a little more progress but not there yet.

"Are you running the latest version of iOS on the iPhone 6s? "Yes - it says it's up to date - iOS 13.5.1

"Have you checked to make sure that your vehicle supports Apple CarPlay?" Yes - it supports both Apple CarPlay and Android for Auto

"What happens exactly when you try and connect to your vehicle? Are you trying to connect to your vehicle using Bluetooth or USB connection?" I've tried both ways with different results. When we use my husband's android phone (via USB cable), we are able to use all the functionality of CarPlay (at least what we're looking for). My prime consideration is using the maps/navigation function. When I set the iphone on Bluetooth, it will connect with the "HandsFreeLink" (under "My Devices"); turning it off and on as suggested may have helped that. When I use the USB cable, however, ApplePlay doesn't seem to be able to detect the phone. Further, on Bluetooth I have access to music and the phone functions, but it doesn't respond to Apple Maps. Any suggestions
