Applications update frozen at "waiting"

When I selected "update all applications" on my iPad, it showed "waiting" and has been frozen there for the last 2 hours for all applications!! I've tried hard reset of the iPad but it still shows the same greyed out "waiting" for all my fav apps. Thinking it was a wifi problem, I tried downloading a couple other new apps from the AppStore. Now those are frozen at "waiting" too. I can't seem to uninstall before reinstalling again either.

I've never experienced this with my iPhone. What's wrong? Help!

I had this problem with the io6 upgrade. I waited 30 to 60 minutes and it then popped a message explaining I had run out of disk space because it had decided to download iTunes tvshows my son had purchased previously. I hadn't asked it to or even opened the Video app.

Anyway, once I deleted those that had downloaded, freeing up space, all apps resumed downloading.

Thought the world had ended for a while there

Hi there.

I had the same problem and it turns out that one download was holding up all of my apps.

I went to:

iTunes > More (bottom right corner) > Downloads and found that i had one download that was holding

everything up. Slide that to the right and hit delete (you can redownload it for free).

After that, everything started loading again.

Hope this helps.

I had the same problem but the Updates window on my iPhone 4s would not even list the 12 Apps that were in need of updating. Finally, I realized that I had very little disk space left on my iPhone. I deleted a bunch of videos and pictures. Then the Updates were able to be listed and downloaded. Now, I sumultaneously had hooked up my iPhone to my MacBook Pro and hit Sync in iTunes a couple times. This may have been part of the solution, but I am more inclined to think it was a lack of disk space that was holding up the show.

- connect to itunes

- go to phone apps area, see the status of the app, if it says update, then click and it will change to 'will update'

- else click uninstall

- then sync

- if you clicked update, this should now kick all the 'waiting' apps into action 1 by 1

- if you had to uninstall, then re-install

- If this does not work you might have to try it a few times, its wierd

- also try unplugging phone, then connecting again, update, remove, install, its kind of like you have to slap it around a few times and then it works.

Resetting my Apple ID password (mobile me account) worked.

But when I started downloading app updates, the first few didn't show the correct progress icons: I didn't see the "filling circle" and, even tho the app got moved to the "Updated October..." bin, I didn't see the "Open" button. This all cleared up after the individual update of about 3 apps.

Okay, I had this problem for WEEKS!! No matter what I tried it didn't work.. But I FINALLY FOUND A SUPER EASY SOLUTION!!!!

1) go into the all store

2) search for said game that is frozen updating

3) next to the game, it should say open, even though you are updating it.

4) click the open button.. It should in a few seconds, start to update again!! Woo hoooo!

Now, be patient, this was happening to me for I think five games that when on the home screen I couldn't delete.only do one at a time. It does take longer then normal to update the game..

If going to the store for step 1) didn't work....

1) go to App Store

2) go to recently purchased at the bottom (next to updates)

3) scroll and find the app from the list of all the apps you have every downloaded. (FYI if you have updated the app anytime before and it changed the logo, it only shows the logo when you FIRST downloaded the game)

4) same as step 4 above

I had to write this, I was beyond frustrated for weeks with this problem

I've tried the suggested solutions without luck. Here's my issue:

Honolulu Star-Advertiser Premium app frozen at "Waiting ..." on iPad w/iOS 7.1

- will not restart with any taps

- will not delete with the "wiggle" steps

- have tried various power reboots as well as swiping the app closed

- HOWEVER, the app does launch and function properly from within the App Store when I select "OPEN"

- that does not cancel the "Waiting" however

- iPad is synced to computer and iTunes DOES NOT list it as an app

- HOWEVER, when looking at the iPad pages within iTunes (and I just backed it up) it "sees" the regular app icon, not the blacked out waiting stage?!

- however the "x" to cancel is not displayed as with all other apps

Egads, any ideas? Free me from my WAITING! Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

This worked for me..

I had updated an app and it was stuck at 'waiting' for weeks. Double tapping would not solve the problem, signing out and in again did nothing, rebooted, still nothing.

I went to the appstore, searched for my app and clicked update. It then re loaded the update properly and it worked.

This is a very common issue on IOS, dont know why apple dont just sit down and find a solution once and for all..
