Could not mount external hard drive

Hello,

A new external Seagate Backup Plus drive was connected to a MacBook Air device. The connection is from a USB A connector to the Mac Book Air USB C port. The Apple Time Machine prompted an erase for the drive to proceed with the Time Machine App. The drive was erased and after that the drive could not be found by the Time Machine Application.

Then the Mac Book Air Utility found the drive connected, but could not "Mount" the drive and returned the following error message:

Could not mount “disk2s2”. (com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error -119930868.).

Any thoughts?

Reformat the drive:

Drive Preparation - El Capitan or Later

  1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities' folder.
  2. After Disk Utility loads select the drive (out-dented entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the side list.
  3. Click on the Erase button in the Disk Utility toolbar. A panel should drop down.
  4. In the drop down panel set the partition scheme to GUID. Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
  5. Click on the Apply button and click on the Done button when it is activated.
  6. Quit Disk Utility.
