Iwatch won't play music
I have synced a playlist to my iWatch, but when I go to play it, it tells me I need to sync with a device, like airpods.

Unfortunately the Apple Watch isn't designed to be a speaker, (think more like a remote to control the music).
For example, I use Spotify, I either have a choice to use my AirPods or my Bose SoundTouch speakers. I can use my watch to control the music that plays, which device it plays to, and the volume.

So what good is the watch then really? I already have to tether to my phone for it to work, so if I have to pair it with headphones why not just pair the headphones to the phone itself and remove the middle man! Everything I can do on the watch I can do on the phone and since my watch won’t function independently I always have to have the phone with me. So why not just skip the watch and just continue to use the phone?! And what about the videos I’ve watched on YouTube where folks get their music to play on their watch? Is that an older model?
Apple offers a 14-day return period. If you are unhappy with your Apple Watch, maybe you should take advantage of the return policy.
You can transfer music to the Apple Watch, and play it WITHOUT needing to have your iPhone nearby. You own music stored on your iPhone, or Pandora off-line playlists, or Apple Music off-line playlists. As well as audiobooks, and podcasts.
If you have a Cellular model Apple Watch, you can stream music from the Pandora and the Apple Music services over the cellular network (Spotify does not offer this service).
The Apple Watch can track your exercise when away from your iPhone, and upload the information to the iPhone Health app when you get back near your iPhone.
I have a GPS only Apple Watch paired to my iPhone, which is basically nearby all the time. I find having all my alerts appear on my wrist to be one of my favorite features. Just this morning I answered the phone on my wrist without taking my iPhone from my pocket. Earlier this morning, I was looking at a wall clock, and wondering why it was not telling me the outdoor temperature, as I'm so used to looking at my Apple Watch for the outside temps.
For my Wife, that does not keep her iPhone in her pocket, it means she sees my iMessages, because they show up on her wrist. The same is also true for cell phone calls. She has miss them before, because either the iPhone was in the kitchen, or in her purse and she did not hear it ring. With the Apple Watch on her wrist, she no longer missing messages or phone calls.
Being able to say "Hey Siri, 15 minute timer" comes in handy many times.
I have a weather app that gives me thunderstorm (and other sever weather) alerts on my wrist.
When on vacation at the coast, I have a ocean tide app that tells me when low and high tides are happening.
My wife and I have used Walkie-Talkie a few times, when say I'm at the store and she wants me to pick something up, or I'm asking a clarifying question. Since Walkie-Talkie is internet based, I've performed demos 300 miles away from my Wife for other family members.
There are other features that I find I do not want to live without.
But my likes are not yours, so if you do not find the Apple Watch useful, return it.
You need to pair a set of Bluetooth headphones. Any Bluetooth headphones can be paired to your Apple Watch.
The Apple Watch speakers take too much power for continuous play.
