Move and Total Calories - Confused

Hello

I'm a bit confused with my Activity Tracking with my Apple Watch.

To give an example, yesterday we went for a walk - at the end the data for the walk was:

Total Time: 2:12:25

Distance: 10.46km

Active Calories: 751 Cal

Total Calories: 1,043 Cal

However, it didn't allocate 1,043 Calories to my Move Target, only the 751 was allocated.

I don't understand why the total number of calories wasn't allocated to my Move Target?

I thought that maybe the Move Target only counts calories when moving - which would make sense - but then I wake up in the morning with roughly 30 calories burned, when I am definitely not moving.

Can somebody explain, please? I love the Apple Watch, but this is confusing, and so frustrating, me.

Thanks

Resting Calories

Your resting calories per day is the amount of energy (in the form of calories) that your body needs to function while resting. This is also known as BMR, or Basal Metabolic Rate. This number of calories reflects how much energy your body requires to support vital body functions. In fact, your BMR is the single largest component (upwards of 60 percent) of your total energy burned each day.

Basically, your body burns calories just by doing nothing, and this is the number those calories are.

Active Calories

These are the calories you burn by being active, such as walking, hiking, playing sports, etc. These calories are vital to losing weight, as the only way to burn more calories than you eat while maintaining a healthy diet is to burn active calories.

Total Calories

This is the sum of the Resting Calories and Active Calories you burn in a day. This is the number of calories you should be focusing on each day when factoring in how many you burned. Combining both Active Calories and Resting Calories gives you the most complete picture of your day.

The total calories is calories statically burnt by the body. The body is constantly using up energy even though we are not moving. The 30 calories burnt by sleeping may have been caused by tossing and turning or arm movements while sleeping. The total calories may not have been added to your move goal because they were not calories burnt by your exercise but rather by your normal Bodie functions consuming energy. That's a brisk walk btw, good job! Hope this helps
