When I go to edit, and the extension (the circle with ...) All I have as choices are Markup and App (More) Photoshop is not listed as an option or anything else. How do I add Photoshop the that list so I can choose it?

The extensions need o be purchased from the AppStore and installed, before they will appear in the list.

  • Open the AppStore, then search for "open in" and click "Get". Once the app has been installed, launch it once to install the extension, and enable it in the System Preferences > Extensions.
  • Then launch Photos again.

You can open the photo in the library with Photoshop while inside the library

and save the resulting edited image as long as you save the new image with the same extension as the original. So if you create layers in Photoshop you'll need to flatten the image and then save. Make sure that you don't change the extension from .jpeg to .jpg which PS will do.. Otherwise Photos will not recognize the edit and it'll be lost to you.

I prefer External Editors for Photos to "Open In", because I can select the format for passing the photo to the editor.

And if an app fails to save the edits back to Photos, I can simply use the "replace original" in External Editors" and add it to the edited image.

Open In, on the other hand, has the advantage, that I can select the color sync profile.

Does that mean if you edit an image in PS or PSE and create alayered .psd file you can replace the original jpeg and it will be integrated into the database?
