Can I use my iPad Pro as a monitor to view live video from my iPhone 7?
Is there a way to monitor or mirror my iPhone back camera on to my iPad screen when videoing?
I use FaceTime to teach my granddaughter to play the guitar which works fine but it occurred to me I could make videos of my fingering with my iPhone back camera at better resolution and send them to her so she could work at her own pace. My plan is to use a gooseneck mount to position the iPhone to video my fingers as a I play.
The problem with this is the screen is facing away from me and is partially obscured by the mount. it’s difficult to make sure the close up of my fingers is properly in shot as I can’t see the screen and there’s a lot of trial and error and deleting of useless videos. If I use the front camera I can position myself correctly but then I lose the higher resolution of the back camera so I wondered if there was any way I could use my iPad Pro as a monitor by mirroring the view from iPhone camera to my iPad screen to make sure I’m properly in shot.
I searched the internet and eventually found a couple of websites which claimed I should be able to do this using AirPlay but when I follow their guidance the only device that appears on my list of AirPlay devices is the Apple TV - not my iPad. As I couldn’t find any info on the more reliable websites I suspect these websites that tell me this can be done are incorrect and AirPlay only works with Apple TV. However it might be me getting something wrong so I thought I’d try this forum in case there is a way to do it. Can anybody help please?
I’m using an iPhone 7 with iOS 13.5.1 and an iPad Pro with iPadOS 13.5.1. Both are logged on to the same WiFi network with a strong connection.
