FWIW, I have been using Malwarebytes for a number of years. However, I do not use it in background mode and only run it if I feel my Mac(s) may have been "infected" with malware/adware ... which has been rare. I suggest that you continue to use your copy for the same reason.
Mac do not get viruses. However, they can be susceptible to various forms of adware. In most cases, Apple's built-in security features take care of this, but once in awhile (at least in my experience) an app, like Malwarebytes, will come in handy.
Do not waste your money on any dedicated AV apps as they are not only not needed, but tend to cause more issues than solve them.

MWB is the only one I've seen with no problems created so far... well, did see one accusation but I discounted that.
