apple phone call

Received a phone call fromApple Inc telling me there was unusual activity trying to use my iCloud account, press 1 to speak to an apple tech..... I pressed 1 and talked to someone who told me there was unusual activity coming from Houston and Dayton Ohio, and asked me if that was me or not. The woman stated that when there were multiple attempts to use an apple account the servers flagged it.

Is this a scam?

If all you did was to "press 1," they only were able to ascertain that you were probably an Apple customer, and you confirmed that by responding to the call. Therefore, they know that your number is associated with an iPhone.

AFAIK, Apple will not respond to multiple requests, nor will they inform you of those attempts. That is the purpose of Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support.

Since they "spoofed" the Apple Support Number, I would advise removing that number from your contacts.

In the future, do not respond to any calls purporting to be from Apple.

Nothing. The phone rang and I answered it since it was from Apple. It stated the issue and to press '1' if I wanted to speak to a tech about a breach of my account. All I did was press 1. In the ensuing conversation I didn't give any information. I hung up and changed my password immediately. Did pressing '1' yield any information to the scam caller? Also, what does Apple do if there is a simultaneous request from many sources to use an iCloud account? How are we protected? There were sources as stated in the cal from Houston and Dayton, Ohio. I was asked if either was me. Then we got cut off. In my contacts it lists 1 800 MYAPPLE as the number and lists Apple's address in Cupertino.
