connecting mac to pc via usb?

I need to connect my old laptop to my mac to get files off it, I dont have an internet network so the only way I can do it is by usb...but it wont work...can anyone help?

I would suggest putting them on an external HD and moving them that way, it will be much more simple. You cannot network the two machines together via a USB hub.

I'm not sure what you mean by an "Internet network." Are you saying you don't have a router? If you don't that's another way to get files moved, set up a simple network and then move the files over using the LAN.

It's possible to connect the two computers via an ethernet cable or a firewire cable. Not by USB. The exact method of making the connection and transferring the files depends on the specific computers you have. What are they?

Or you could use an external HD ... if your old laptop is Windows, format the external HD as FAT32, then copy the files from the old laptop to the HD, then disconnect the HD from the old laptop and connect it to your Mac. Then copy the files onto your Mac.
